Mark McGwire admits to using Steroids

Monday, January 11th, 2010 | MLB | No Comments

The world is not shocked as Mark McGwire admited today that he used steroids when he broke the home run record in 1998.  McGwire said in a statement to the AP that he used steroids on and off for nearly a decade.

“I wish I had never touched the steroids,” McGwire said in a statement. “It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era.”

McGwire decisted to come clean because he will become the hittig coach of the St. Louis Cardinals, the team he ended his MLB career with.

McGwire is the second MLB star in the last year to come out and admit his use of steroids, Alex Rodriguez announced last February that he had used drugs to enhance his hitting.

I guess McGwire knows he won’t get into the hall of fame any time soon and this pretty much sealed the deal on that.

Manny Ramirez out for 50 games

Thursday, May 7th, 2009 | MLB | No Comments

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez has tested positive for performance enhancing drugs and will be suspended for 50 games. The official announcement is expected Thursday. Manny just resigned this year with the Dodgers and it was a long drawn out deal with his agent and the team. Real smart Manny, looks like these players will never learn.

A Rod and Bonds both like the roids

Saturday, February 7th, 2009 | MLB | No Comments

A Rod

Looks things are going to get a lot worse for Alex Rodriguez in the coming weeks, according to many news sources he tested positive to steroids back in 2003.  In 2003 there was no real penalty for using steroids and it was big joke in MLB.  More than 5 percent of players in the majors tested positive in the ’03 survey, and mandatory testing was implemented — including provisions for penalties — in 2004. Rodriguez is the highest paid player in the MLB. What will Madonna say about all of this?

McGwire could have used steroids

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 | MLB | No Comments

mark_mcgwireHere is a shocker for everyone, Mark McGwire probably used steroids. According to a book proposal by McGwires estranged brother. He claims that Mark took both steroids and HGH through out his MLB career. Jay McGwaire is saying that Mark used Deca-Durabolin and that he was the intro to Mark for performance enhancing drugs back in 94. Jay is claiming that Mark started off slow with low dosages so to not rocket his stats in baseball. The Deca-Durabolin helped with his joints and the HGH helped out his strength and making him leaner in the process. “I became the first person to inject him, like most first- timers he couldn’t plunge in the needle himself.” Jay said. Later a girlfriend injected him. In the 2005 book by Jose Canseco he claims he and McGwire used performance drugs as far back as 1988 but Jay disputes this in his proposal. Mark and Jay have not spoken in years so Jay claims should be taken with a grain of salt. The book has already been turned down by many publishers. Jay claims that Mark started taking performance-enhancing drugs in 1994 after he took him to his trainer. Jay is a bodybuilder and has been in many competitions. McGwire hit 70 home runs in 1998 breaking Roger Maris single season record. Since then Barry Bonds broke this record and has been the target of many steroid accusations. McGwire has not played baseball since 2001 and the 45 year old slugger has kept out of the public eye.

NFL Players Using Diuretic Violated NFL Steroids Policy

Saturday, October 25th, 2008 | General, NFL, Sports | No Comments

There are several unconfirmed reports that several NFL players have tested positive for using a weight-loss diuretic that violates the NFL’s steroids policy. Bumetanide is a “watter pill” that causes increased urination which decreases the amount of urine and salt retained in the body. When a diuretic like bumetanide is used as a “masking agent”, it dilutes the urine which lowers the amount of any banned substance being excreted from the body in the user’s urine. The New York Jets running back Jesse Chatman was suspended for the first 4 games of the season for using a diuretic that could be used as a amsking agent and thus violates the NFL’s strict steroids drug policy. The recent unconfirmed report states that somewhere between 10-15 NFL players have tested positive for the diruetic that could result in 4 games suspensions for each player involved. Fox 31 television in Denver only named 2 players in their report – Deuce McCalister and Will Smith of the New Orleans Saints, who are in London to play against the San Diego Chargers in the annual NFL football game overseas. Houston TV station KRIV alos reported that the long-snapper for the Houston Texans, Bryan Pittman, was also one of the players who tested positive for the diuretic and is ready to appeal any potential suspension.

This is just another example of players and their trainers trying to find ways around the NFL’s drug policies in order to get the upper hand. The players should get the benefit of the doubt, they should be able to appeal the results and make their case, and they should have had the ability to do these things with confidentiality. The persons responsible for leaking the information to the public before any determination has been made should also be held accountable for their actions. It will be interesting to see how the NFL treats the players who tested positive for the diuretic. Commissioner Goodell and his staff have taken a hard-line regarding players’ violations of the NFL’s drug policies and players’ off-the-field infractions that may or may not be considered violations of the law. Given these precedents, it will be hard to imagine many of these players involved winning their appeals.
