Eagles Trade Donovan McNabb to Redskins for Draft Picks

Monday, April 5th, 2010 | NFL, Philadelphia Eagles, Sports | No Comments

The Philadephia Eagles traded long-time quarterback Donovan McNabb to the division-rival Washington Redskins in a surprise move on Sunday night.  The Redskins get the Eagles 2nd round pick in this year’s NFL Draft (the 37th pick overall) and then either a 3rd or 4th round pick in the 2011 NFL draft, depending on how the Redskins finish the season.

Eagles Head Coach called McNabb a friend and indicated that this was one of the toughest decisions that he has ever had to make.  “This was a decision that we thought was best for Donovan and, at the same time, the compensation was right for us.  We certainly took into consideration Donovan’s feelings here, too… Donovan McNabb represented everything a football player could be during his 11 seasons in Philadelphia.  He carried this organization to new heights and set a high standard of excellence both on and off the field.  We thank him for everything he did for this football team and for his city.”

McNabb issued a statement about his excitement to be playing with a new team, but also his happiness at having played for some great Eagles teams in Philadelphia — “I’m really excited about my future with the Washington Redskins.  I’m eager to work with Coach Shanahan.  He’s been a very successful coach with a couple of Super Bowl victories on his resume.  While it’s been mu goal to win a Super Bowl in Philadelphia, we came up short.  I enjoyed my 11 years here and we shared a lot more good times than bad.”

It’s surprising that the Eagles traded McNabb to a division rival like the Redskins, especially since the 2 teams will battle each other twice this season.  Reid downplayed that concern and emphasized that the organization has full confidence in Kevin Kolb to lead the team on the field during the 2010 NFL schedule.  The move by new head coach Mike Shanahan of the Redskins means that Jason Campbell will likely serve a back-up role behind McNabb in 2010.

NFL Action – Top Teams Battling – Broncos @ Ravens; Giants @ Eagles; Vikings @ Packers

Sunday, November 1st, 2009 | Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, NFL, Philadelphia Eagles, Sports | No Comments

minnesota vikings brett favre green bay packers aaron rodgers

Get ready for some NFL football action this weekend – boy are there some good games with some great story lines…

In the 1PM slot, there are 2 great games to catch:

The 6-0 Denver Broncos travel to the 3-3 Baltimore Ravens.  The Broncos are the biggest surprise of the 2009 NFL season and people still aren’t giving them any respect with their undefeated start.  The Ravens don’t want to fall to 3-4 with a loss, so look for the Ravens to pull off a close home win.

The 5-2 New York Giants and the 4-2 Philadelphia Eagles meet in an NFC East battle royale – a precursor for the BIG game in Philadelphia later that same day – Game 4 of the World Series between the Yankees and Phillies.  The Giants have lost 2 games in a row but would still be in control of the division with a win.  The Eagles lost to the Raiders and then defeated the Redskins without playing very well.  Look for the Giants to pull off the road win and punch a ticket for the playoffs a little early this year.

And in the Game of the Week – Brett Favre makes his triumphant return to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsion Cheeseheads.  The Vikings have a 2-game lead over the Packers in the NFC North division and could wrap up the division early with their 2nd win over the Packers this season.  The Cheeseheads and Packers players would love for nothing more than to beat up on Favre on his new team.  We’re predicting a close 3-point win for the home team.

Enjoy – should be a lot of fun action to watch all day long…

Hang up the phone McNabb

Monday, January 12th, 2009 | Donovan McNabb, NFL | No Comments

mcnabb

Donovan McNabb made a fake phone call on the sideline on Sunday and got hit with unsportsmanlike conduct. At this point it did not matters since the score was 23-11 with 3:07 to go in the game. He later blamed his act on excitement since they beat last years Super Bowl champs.

The Chicago Bears – Just When You Think The Season Is Over…

Monday, September 29th, 2008 | Sports | No Comments

After blowing 4th quarter leads in 2 consecutive weeks, the critics, media and even most Chicago Bears’ fans were ready to write the Bears’ season off as another disapppointing performance by General Manager Jerry Angelo, Head Coach Lovie Smith and the Chicago Bears players.  The 2-1 Philadelphia Eagles looked like one of the more talented teams in the NFL during the first 3 weeks of the season, and even though the Bears would host star Quarterback Donovan McNabb and the Eagles at home in Soldier Field, most people didn’t give the Bears a chance to pull off the upset.  Boy were we all wrong… Just when we all thought the Bears had no shot against the Eagles, the Bears did just enough to defeat the Eagles 24-20 on Sunday NIght Football (reminiscent of Jeff Daniels’s Harry character in “Dumb and Dumber” saying “Just when I thought you couldn’t get any dumber, you go and do something like this… and totally redeem yourself” when Jim Carey’s Lloyd trades their “puppy dog” van for a mini scooter to take them the rest of the way through the plains to Aspen).  It was the Bears 2nd victory on national TV (the Bears defeated the Colts on September 7th on the first Sunday Night Football match-up of the young NFL season).  Hey Commissioner Roger Goodell – can we play every game on national TV on Sunday night?!  The Bears defense rose to the occasion and withstood a constant offensive barrage from the Eagles in the 2nd half – something they couldn’t do the previous 2 weeks.  The Bears held Donovan McNabb to his lowest passer rating of the season – 77.5 – and limited him to only 1 touchdown pass and less than 300 yards passing.  Although Kyle Orton only threw for 199 yards, he did connect on 3 touchdown passes in the first half and played well enough to overcome 4 turnovers by the Bears offense.  The Bears sit at 2-2 tied for 1st place in the NFC North with the Green Bay Packers.  The Bears face the winless Lions in Detroit in Week 5, and will likely lose by 3 touchdowns.
