The Chicago Blackhawks beat the Calgary Flames 5-2 in Calgary on Thursday night. The Blackhawks remain unbeaten this season in games played across the Canadian border – 7-0 currently. The 1st period was as exciting as they come – as each team traded goals twice to close out a 2-2 period. Dave Bolland scored his 11th goal of the season and Andrew Ladd knocked home his 9th of the season. Then the Blackhawks took over. They scored the next 3 goals and the defense shut down the Flames offensive attack, as they cruised to a 5-2 win. Adam Burish’s 4th goal of the season midway through the 2nd period gave the Blackhawks the lead for good. Colin Fraser and Troy Brouwer finished off the game’s scoring with goals in the 3rd period. Nikolai Khabibulin saved 29 of 31 shots on goal and won his 3rd straight game. He is now 16-4-5 on the season.

The Blackhawks have 3 games left on their current road trip before returning home to face the Dallas Stars at the United Center on Valentine’s Day Night. With the win, the Blackhawks jumped ahead of the Flames in point total – 66 to 64. But because of divisional rules, the Flames are still the 3rd seed in the Western Conference because they are the Northwest division leader. The Blackhawks, on the other hand, still trail the Detroit Red Wings by 7 points in the race for the Central Division title.

Blackhawks Win 4th Straight, Top Flames 6-1

Monday, November 10th, 2008 | NHL, Sports | No Comments

The Chicago Blackhakws won their 4th straight game at home and still have not suffered a home loss in regulation at the United Center. The Blackhawks defeated the Calgary Flames. The Blackhawks took a 3-0 lead on goals by Martin Havlat and Aaron Johnson in the 1st period and a goal by Patrick Kane in the 2nd period. After the Flames cut the lead to 3-1 at the end of the 2nd period, the Blackhawks out the game away in the 3rd period with an offensive barage. Jonathan Toews, Kris Versteeg and Troy Brouwer each scored goals in the 3rd period to put away the 6-1 victory for the Blackhawks. Once again, the Blackhawks used a balance attack, as all 6 goals were scored by a different Blackhawks skater. Cristobal Huet shined in net, saving all but 1 of the Flames 23 shots on goal.

The Blackhawks now have 17 points, good for a tie for 5th place in the Western Conference. Next up for the Blackhawks is a battle against the Boston Bruins at the United Center on Wednesday night.
