UFC star pleads guilty

Friday, January 9th, 2009 | General, UFC | No Comments

quinton-rampage-jacksonIts not a good day for Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, he pleaded guilty Thursday to one felony count of evading a peace officer and driving against traffic. He also has a misdemeanor count of driving recklessly. This charges come from a July 15th arrest when in a much publicized car chase with authorities in Costa Mesa and Newport California. Jackson reached a plea agreement and cold face six months in jail and probation. Before he is sentenced he must complete 200 hours of community service, attend therapy, pay restitution, and comply with some other terms of the plea. Some of the additional terms could be a restriction on alcohol use and court ordered drug test. Jackson was not drunk or on drugs on July 15th but he did have many medical professionals diagnose him with delirium while driving.

If he finishes all of this community service and complies with all of this terms his felony charges could be dropped. On July 15th Jackson was accused of sideswiping two cards after he drove up on a curb with his pick up truck. Allegedly he fled the scene and was later flagged down by police officer who witnessed him driving on a flat tire. Jackson refused to stop and then collided with a second vehicle. After this the chase with the police began, he ran multiple lights and almost struck a pedestrian and several police cars.

After taken into custody Jackson was bailed out the same day, but friends requested Jackson be placed on 72-hour mental hold at a local hospital that day after the chase. Jackson is know for his first round knockout of Wanderlei Silva and beating Chuck Liddell in May of 2007. He was dethroned in July one week before his arrest by Forrest Griffin.

UFC 92 a toss up

Saturday, December 27th, 2008 | UFC | No Comments

ufc_92Las Vegas will be the host of light heavyweight championship on Saturday night. UFC 92′s big fight is Forrest Griffin and Rashad Evans both skilled fighters making it hard to pick the favorite to win. Griffin is the current champion (16-4) and is currently the slight favorite only because he is little more know then Evans. Griffin’s last two big fights he beat Quinton Jackson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Evans also has a very immersive recordĀ  (17-0-1) is undefeated and is most well know for his crazy knockout of Chuck Liddell on Sept. 6 in Atlanta. That fight earned him the title shot but he has not faced a top contender until tonight. Evens training partner, Keith Jardine has knocked out Griffin two years ago so this should be a big help for Evens tonight. Both fighters are the same age and both got their start from the UFC reality show the first two years it was on. With UFC having their biggest pay-per-view year this fight should be a record breaker for UFC and pay-per-view. We will have the winner posted after the fight.

Update: Evans won the light heavyweight champsionship after taking Griffin to the ground in the third round.
