The Cleveland Browns defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 41-34 on Sunday for their 3rd win of the NFL schedule.  Now granted, it was only a win against another 3-win team, but Josh Cribbs and Jerome Harrison showed why they could be forces to be reckoned with in the near future.

Josh Cribbs is clearly the best returner in the game today.  Cribbs set an NFL record by returning 2 kickoffs for touchdowns of at least 100 yards each in the same game.  His 1st 100-yard return came in the 1st quarter and gave the Browns a 10-3 lead.  His 2nd return of 103 yards cut an 11-point deficit to just 4 points right before the end of the 1st half.  That had to give the Browns confidence going into halftime.

Running back Jerome Harrison became the 2nd half story with 3 rushing touchdowns.  On the day, Harrison rushed the ball 34 times for 286 yards.  His final 28-yard touchdown came with just 43 seconds remaining in the game and proved to be the game winner.

It has been a rough season for new Browns Head Coach Eric Mangini and Quarterback Brady Quinn, but at least Browns had a lot to cheer about this past Sunday with the Cribbs and Harrison performances.

Worst NFL Game Ever? Browns Top Bills 6-3 in Buffalo

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009 | Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Derrek Anderson, Jamal Lewis, NFL, Sports, Terrell Owens, Trent Edwards | No Comments

Browns Bills Football

The 0-4 Browns earned their 1st 2009 victory with a thrilling 6-3 win over the 1-3 Bills in Buffalo on Sunday. Could this be the worst NFL game ever played?  The teams were scoreless after the 1st quarter and the Browns led 3-0 at halftime.  Although the Bills tied it at 3 on Rian Lindell’s 36-yard field goal in the 3rd quarter, the teams went scoreless for the game’s next 24+ minutes until Billy Cundiff kicked the game winning field goal with just 23 seconds remaining in the game.

Gotta love the fans calling for Dick Jauron’s job after just 5 games.  And it looks like the Terrell Owens experiment has already failed in Buffalo.  In Sunday’s game, Owens caught just 4 passes for 44 yards, with a long reception of just 18 yards.  So far this season, Owens has just 12 catches for 202 yards with only 1 touchdown reception.  The most catches in a game for Owens was Sunday with 4. Ouch.

But back to the game – just how bad was it:

Browns QB Derrek Anderson was just 2 of 17 for 23 total yards passing.  He had 1 interception god for a 15.1 passer rating.  His season passer rating is now 39.0  Compared to Anderson, Bills’ QB Trent Edwards looked like Joe Montana in his heyday – 16 of 31 for 152 yards and 1 interception good for a 52.1 passer rating.  The Browns’ Jamal Lewis did rush for 117 yards on 31 carries, but the team managed just 9 total 1st downs.  The Bills had 13 1st downs and 288 total net yards, but they also had 2 lost fumbles to end drives.  Not good.  The Browns snapped a 10-game losing streak dating back to last season, while the Bills have now lost 12 of 15 games.  Bad, bad, bad…

The lone bright spot – Browns’ punter Dave Zastudil landed 7 of his 9 punts inside the Bills 20 yard line.  His last punt was so wobbly and difficult to pick up, that Bills’ returned Rosoce Parrish muffed the punt allowing the Browns to recover the ball at the Bills 16 yard line to set up the winning field goal.

Gotta love NFL Football…
