The Florida Marlins have finally been approved to build a new ballpark in Miami. It was a long 91/2 hour meeting, but the county’s 13 commissioners passed the vote 9-4 for the $515 million ball park. The stadium should open in 2012 on the site of the demolished Orange Bowl. The team will be renamed the Miami Marlins when the new stadium opens. The Marlins have never had a large draw at the current stadium they share with the Miami Dolphins even after winning two World Series. The Marlins are set to pay $119 million of the park and will get a loan of $35 million from the county. The team expects near sell out crowds the first year and had to agree to many request from the city to get the park approved.
