It took a long time, but the Chicago Bulls finally pulled it off.  With the Bulls 117-102 win over the Bucks at the United Center on Friday night, the Bulls moved into sole possession of the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race.  The Bulls used a 38-26 edge in the 2nd quarter to open up an 11 point halftime lead that they never relinquished.

Ben Gordon led the way for the Bulls – 34 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists.  Derrick Rose also had a great night with 27 points and 6 assists.  John Salmons poured in 21 points in another solid effort for the Bulls, while Joakim Noah (13 boards) and Tyrus Thomas (8 boards) cleaned up the boards well.   Brad Miller put in a solid effort off the bench with 12 points and 9 rebounds.

Several Bucks players turned in good nights as well.  Richard Jefferson led the Bucks with 27 points and 6 rebounds.  Carlos Villanueva scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.  Ramon Sessions scored 20 points and dished out 11 assists, while Luc Richard Mbah a Moute added 21 points and 11 rebounds.

The Bulls are in the midst of a rough stretch against playoff caliber teams.  The team’s next 5 games are against playoff teams – the Miami Heat, Orlando Magic and Philadelphia 76ers on the road and then the New Orleans Hornets and Boston Celtics at the United Center.  If the Bulls want to keep their hold on that 8th seed, they are going to have to find a way to win one or 2 of those games.  Will it happen?  Who knows, but it does seem like the Bulls rise to the occasion against better teams, so maybe the Bulls will be able to steal 1 win on the road and 1 win at home…
