Blackhawks Get Back On Track With 3-1 Win Over Thrashers

Friday, February 13th, 2009 | Chicago Blackhawks, NHL, Sports | No Comments

The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Atlanta Thrashers 3-1 on Thursday night. After a scoreless 1st period, the Blackhawks scored first on Patrick Sharp’s power play goal 14 minutes into the 2nd period. The Thrashers tied it up just 4 minutes later on Ilya Kovalchuk’s 24th goal of the season, but the Blackhawks quickly answered with another power play goal of their own by Jonathan Toews just 21 seconds later. Blackhawks goalie Nikolai Khabibulin did the rest, holding the Thrashers to the lone goal despite 37 shots on goal. Khabibulin is now 17-5-5 on the season with a .924 save average, but is still considered to be trade bait given the fact that it is unlikely that the Blackhawks will re-sign him after this season.

The Blackhawks finish up an 8-game road trip on Friday night in St. Louis. The Blackhawks are currently 5-2 on the road trip and return home to the United Center on Saturday with a game against the Dallas Stars.
