Bulls Get Surpise 102-98 Victory Over Raptors in Toronto

Thursday, January 15th, 2009 | Chicago Bulls, NBA, Sports | No Comments

The Chicago Bulls have been struggling since the middle of December and the road has not been kind to the weary Chicago team. After watching a 9-point 1st quarter lead disappear into a 1-point halftime deficit, the Bulls could have just cashed it in for the night, as they have done so many times this season. But after an even 3rd quarter in which each team scored 21 points and the Raptors still led by 1, the Bulls showed some resilience and spunk in the 4th quarter. The Bulls rode rookie guard Derrick Rose who scored 17 of his 25 points in the 4th quarter to the 4-point victory. In addition to Rose’s Bulls game-high 25 points, Rose also dished out 10 assists and only turned the ball over once in 38 minutes. Luol Deng, making his first start since returning from an ankle injury had one of his best games of the season – 16 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists in 39 minutes of play. Another player who just returned from injury – Kirk Hinrich – also had a productive night off the bench. In 32 minutes of play, Hinrich knocked in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists.

It will be nice to see how Vinny Del Negro handles his team now that just about everyone is healthy. From the looks of it, Del Negro might continue to go with a starting lineup of Rose and Ben Gordon at guard, Drew Gooden at center (with Joakim Noah filling in when Gooden is injured), and Luol Deng and Tyrus Thomas at forward. Kirk Hinrich and Andres Nocioni will continue to log significant minutes off the bench. Larry Hughes and mid-season pick up Lindsay Hunter may be th odd-men out in the near future. Hughes did not play in Wednesday night’s game in Toronto and Hunter has not played in the Bulls last 2 games. The Bulls have until Saturday, January 17th to determine whether or not to keep Hunter or waive him before the deadline. If the Bulls don’t waive Hunter by Saturday, his contract becomes guaranteed for the entire season.

Next up for the Bulls are 2 home games at the United Center against 2 of the hottest teams in the NBA. The Bulls take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night and the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night. Each team has won 8 of their last 10 games. The Bulls are 17-22 and find themselves 1.5 games out of the 8th playoff spot in the Eastern Conference trailing the Philadelphia 76ers.

White Sox sign Colon

Thursday, January 15th, 2009 | MLB | No Comments

bartolo_colonFormer Cy Young Award winner and two time All-Star Bartolo Colon agreed to a one year $1 million deal with the White Sox. Colon could earn $2 million more based on innings. He pitched for the White Sox in 2003 with a 3.87 ERA going 15-13 and having a 173 strikeouts. Last year the 35 year old right handier was only able to make seven starts with the Red Sox because of back stiffness that put him on the DL for 3 months.

Lions find a coach

Thursday, January 15th, 2009 | NFL | No Comments

jim_schwartzThe 0-16 Detroit Lions have a coach sources say that Jim Schwartz will be the next coach. Schwartz was the Titans defensive coordinator for the past eight seasons. The deal is rumored to be a four year contract and the amount was not made available. Its not like it can get any worse for the lions, even if they win one game next years its an improvement. Detroit has the No. 1 pick in the draft in April and a first and third round pick from Dallas. Good luck Jim you will need it.

Dallas could dump Owens

Thursday, January 15th, 2009 | NFL | No Comments

t_ownesThe team likes to talk about locker room chemistry, but I think we all know that Terrell Owens is a big pain in the ass. The Cowboys released Pacman Jones who has been suspended two times this season and Tank Johnson is rumored to depart through free agency.  The Cowboys started the 2008 season with three players that had been by there previous team, the list included Owens, Jones, and Johnson. It might not be that easy to get Jerry Jones to dump Ownes since he give him a $12 million signing and because of this they have to worry about the salary-cap. But the team is still looking to win and if they can’t get along there will be no Super Bowl in 2009. ” I think we all know that chemistry is the problem with this team more than the schemes or anything else.” A Cowboy source told ESPN. Owens who is not getting along with Tony Romo and Jason Witten has also been very vocal criticizing offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. Garrett has been talking to the Rams and Lions about a head-coaching position and if Owens stays put you can bet Garrett will move on. The team is also worried about the bad influence Owens has on Roy Williams, Patrick Crayton, and Marion Barber. The Cowboys move into their new $1 billion stadium this year.

I say drop this guy, all we read about in pro sports is of these dumb athletes causing problems or getting arrested. When is the NFL going to ban someone for life? You make millions to play football, shut your mouth and stay of of jail its not that hard. I’m sure someone will give Owens a bonus for being a pain in the ass.
