The Chicago Bulls defeated the Dallas Mavericks 98-91 on Thursday night. Another slow start under Head Coach Vinny Del Negro saw the Bulls behind by 10 after the 1st quarter. But an 11-point 2nd quarter edge gave the Bulls a 1 point lead at halftime, and the Bulls kept the momentum in the 3rd period to increase the lead to 8 at the start of the 4th quarter. Ben Gordon shined for the Bulls with 35 points 2 rebounds and 4 assists. Derrick Rose added 16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists, while Luol Deng scored 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Gordon, Rose and Deng have been the 3 most consistent players for the Bulls all season long. Tyrus Thomas and Drew Gooden each scored 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to finish off the balanced-attack. In his first appearance of the season, Larry Hughes scored 5 points in 13 minutes for the Bulls.
In defeat, Josh Howard starred for the Mavericks with 21 points and 11 boards. Erik Dampier also had a productive night with 16 points and 18 rebounds.
The Bulls are now 4-5 and have a chance to get back to .500 before they hit the road for their annual “circus” road trip. The Bulls face intra-division rival Indiana Pacers on Saturday night at the United Center.
